Retter, Plimmer Terrace, have- returned to their home. - It Does Seem Silly According to a statement made at a local body meeting recently, the Catchment .Board is to be asked to ta.ke action to have drainage facilities provided in the district to cope with the inundation of a portion of land caused, it is said, by water from an uncontrolled artesian" borc on Maori proper.ty. A stop cock was all that was needed to prevent thc water running to waste and inun'dating the propcrty, but the owners were not interested. This Land of Plenty Having recently returned liome after spending five and a-half years service overseas, Sergeant E. Allen commented on conditions in this country as comparcd with those in England. Sgt. Allen spent consiclerabie time in Engiana, fiz'stly in connection with the repatriation of New Zealand prisoncrs of war, and was thcn stationecl at the Fernleaf Club in London. Hc had the opportunity of visiting many private homes. Sgt. Allen remarked on how wonderfui it was to see such an abundance of good. food as there was on thc table for the late tea to which the family sat down to following his arrival. The food, he said, was most monotonous in England, and the housewives in' particular were showing the strain of having constantly to queue uo for their needs. English pride prevented the rest of the Empire from knowing just hov; badly off the Old Country was for food, said Sgt. Allen, but after visiting their homes and seeing for oneself just what conditions were in England, the people of New Zealand were very fortunate indeed to be living in this land of plenty.
