LABOUR WINS BY-ELECTION

Received Friday, 11 a.m. LONDON, Nov. 21. The North Paddington by-election resulted as follows; — W. F. Feild (Labour, 13,082; H. L. Turner (Conservative), 10,165; Clifford Groves (Socialist Party of Great Britain), 286. Fifty-four per cent of the electorate voted. The vacancy was due to the retirement of General Mason-Macfarlane because of illhealth. The Labour win has enabled Mr. Attlee's administration to establish a record. Not since Disraeli's Conservative Administration in 1874 has a British Government held everv seat contested in a byelection during its first year in office.
