SUCCESSFUL CHURCH BAZAAR

ANGLXCAN LADIES' GUILD FUNCTION The vicar of the parish, Rev. J. H. Datson, at 2 p.m. on Thursday iast opened, in the Parish -Hall, the bazaar organised by the Ladies' Guild of the Anglican Church. In opite of the very wet and unpleasant weather conditions prevailing. Here was a very large attendance of the public. Exceptionally good ousiness was done at each stall, the ultimate results far exceeding expectations. The function was continued in ohe evening and in the main was of a social nature. Mrs. Fuller supplied the music for dancing, and several appreciated elocutionary items were given by Misses Ngaire Peach and June Roberts. Twelva .nembers of the Rangatahi Maori Club from Moutoa entertained at frequent intervals with action songs, duos, trios and solos, all of vhich were well received by those oresent. ...

At a suitable juncture, Mr. Datson took the opportunity of speaking in happy vein to the large assembly, expressing his delight at seeing so many present on such a wet night. He paid tribute to Mrs. E. L. Hyde (president) , Mrs. C. Parr (secretary) , and to all members of the guild, fpr. .their magnificent effort in running the bazaar, and also to Mr. Selwyn Hyde for the amount of preliminary work he had done in connection with the staging of it. His own personal thanks went to the guild and all those connected with the arranging and running of the bazaar, to those who had given in kind so generously, to the public for attending, to the Maori concert party and artists for their help with the entertainment, Mrs. Fuller for her much appreciated assistance by playing for the dancing and Mr. C. M. Cronquest for filling the position of M.C. The holders of the various stalls were as follows: — Produce:' Mesdames A. R. Mills and R. Vinsen; jumble, Mesdames D. Jones and J. A. McClymont; sewing and fancy goods, Mesdames C. Parr and E. L. Hyde; cake, Mesdames E. Chester and R. H. Charter; sweets,' Misses V. Munford and P. Allerby; fish pond, Mesdames G. Munford, ' T. Walker and Michael Munford; tea rooms, Mesdames J. Allerby, W. F. Pope, R. P. Lester, C. Elvines, R. Lang and Miss Lang; candles and nail-driving, Mesdames C. M. Cronquest and Wylie; quoits, Morton Munford;, games of , skill, Messrs. V. J. Bateman, S. E. Hyde, E. Chester and S. Chester; men's naildriving, Mr. • D. Jones. The doorkeepcrs were Messrs. J. Raper and E. Chester, Senr. A competition for the best sponge cake was won by Miss Doreen Ward. Othcr competition winners were as follows: — Rev. J. H. • Datson ( quoits), Mr. Boswcll (naildriving), Mr. Winiata (candle-lighting) , Colin Payne (rabbit), Jack Morgan ( Christmas cake), Mi's. Higgot .(dinner), Mrs. C. II. Speirs (ladies' mystery parcel) , Mr. R. Vinsen (gent's mystery parcel), Mrs. R. H. Charter (silk hose), Pamela Harris (doll's furniture) . Maureen Richardson (green cushion), Mrs. E. L. Hyde (baby's pink outfit) , Mrs. D. Coley (hand-painted cushion), Mr. E. R. Undrill (baby's white jacket) .
