ABUNDANCE OF WHEAT DENIED
LOXDOX, Xov. 17. It was totalty untrue that there would l>e a world abundance of wlieat, said tlie Minister of Food (Mr. Straclieyj answoring a series of questions from ihe Daily Express. Mr. Strachey added that tliere was undoubtedly a great deal in America but tliere was still a serious gap between world requirements and tlie total world snpplies. He declared that Britain would buy every ton of wlieat the American Government was williiig to sell her up to her full requirements. To the question, "Will Mr. Dalton find the dollars to buy all the wheat ?" Mr. Strachey replied: "Uertainly, he has never hesitated. " Mr. Strachey added that transport difliculties in t'anada and tlie Unitei! States were holding up deliveries. Britain had ships waiting for weeks for cargoes in the St. Lawrence River. He concluded, in answer to a further question, tliat he could see no immediate prospect of cnding bread r'ationing.
