LONDON, Nov. 17. The ancient University cliureli of St. Mary Ihe Virgin, oue of tlie arehitectural beauties of Oxford, was damaged by a lire wliieh broke out iu thc cha,neel. After tJiree hours the iireinen prevcnted the iire froui spreadiug, but the organ was destroved. Germau prisouers assisted iu Ihe removal of valuable furniture and veslments. The church, which was buiit in the 13th ceutury, is llie University parish cliurch. It has the most lieavily deeorated spire iu Europe.
