AUSTRALIAN RACING

• Eeccived Sunday, 7 p.m. ; - MILBOURNE, Nov. 16. The record' of outslders wlnhing, importaht races at the Melbourne spring, meeting, continued today. The Wiiiiamstown Cup, expected to provide consolation for well backed uuiucky horses in previous lnxportant events, railed today to justify that inipression. Leonard, .who won two weight-for-agc races in' the last few weeks, unable to be rehandicapped, was eonsidered to be very favourably weighted and was a riiost popular starter. He was well placed most of the way, was second into the straight and was expected to outstay the opposition but he weakened in the last furlong and missed a place. The winner was an outsider, Royal Scot, whose form was so moderate that he was handieapped to minimum weight. Taking charge soon after the start he was not afterwards headed. Chaytor challenged the leader a furlong from home and appeared likely to overtake , him but died away in the run and was easily defeated by a length. Knockarlow struggled on to gain third place and never appeared a likely winner. The New Zealand mare First In was heavily supported but she was alw*ays well baek and never a likely winner. She appears to have lost all form. Havirig its second start in a race Record Being, a colt by Coronach from Prineess Ball and costing 4750 guineas at the New Zealand 3-earling saies, was made favourite in the Rawson Stakes. After he appeared to have every chance he failed to make any impression in the last two furlongs and linished sixth His pfesent form indicates the colt to be a very costly purchase. The winner was Eba, a fllly by Dhoti from Air Song The Hlly had shown promlsing form earlier .but lacked stamina. Racing has improved her. She iiriished strongly to day to win by half- a length ' from Selefia with Two Ivings a moderate third.
