WOMEN'S INSTITUTES

LEVIN'S NOVEMBER MEETING The monthly meeting of the Levin Women's Institute was held on a reeent evening. There was a tair attendance of members and lTiends, and all were welcomed bj, the president, Mrs. Kellaway Several apologies were received. Three new members were elected. A letter was read from the sister branch in Surrey, England, with a list of addresses for the sending of food parcels. Mesdames Mudgway and Hannan were a^ked to unctei,ake the task of buying the godds and dispatching them to England. _ An invitation had been received from tlje junior branch to attend their first birthday party on November 23, at 8 p.m., in St. Mary's Hall. Another invitation was to a birthday party at Shannon on November 20, at 2 p-.m. The delegate for the half-yearly federation meeting, held at Paekakariki recently, read the report of the proceedings and' received a hearty vote of thanks. Ari-angements were finalised for I.evin, Ihakara Koputaroa and Kimberley Institutes to give a Christmas party to the boys at the Kimberley Road Hospital on December 19. Refreshmenos will be served and each boy will receive a gi-ft from the Christmas tree. An excellent programme has , been arranged. All members; are asked 'to bring a gift at the next meeting for this purpose.

Mr. Lanney entertained by showing a sbries of lantern slides of Kew Gardens, and the Chelsea flower show, London, renown ed the world over for their beautiful flowers and shrubs, and their "gofgeous' settings. It was very interesting, especially to gardeners and garden lovers. He was accorded a vote of thanks for so generously giving his time. ■ Supper was served by the hostesses and a pleasant evenihg closed. Competition wihners were as follows:— -Flowers: Mrs. Suhan 1,. Mrs. Milne 2, Mrs. Satherley 3. Shrubs: Mrs. Milrie 1, Mrs. Wilson 2, Mrs: McLeavey 8. Vegetable: Mrs. Wil'son 1.
