The Chief Scout, Lord Rowallan, Upon his return from a tour of Canada, said he would visit Auscralia and New Zealand in 1948. Mr. F# Langbein • has been appointed engineer4n-chief of the Public Works Department and chairman of Ihe Mgin Highways Bqgrd. He succegds as engineer Mr. T. G. Beck, who will now be able to give his undivided attentipn ,o his duties as Deputy-Commjs-sioner of Work;. The death oocurred after a prplonged illness cf Mr. J. W. Olphert, aged 52, of Napier. Ile wgs , prominently aisoci'ated with milicary affairs in Napier, and sinci 1931 had been English and history magter at the Napier Boys' High School. Mr. Olphert seryed with the New Zealand Forces in the 1914-18 war. • The appqintment of Mr- A. Haley as senior masier at Horowhenua College and Mr. G. Ball as head pf Che English Department has been approved by the Education Department . and Wellington Education Bqard. Thip adyice was contained iii' a report submjtted to a meeting of the Advisory Committee last evening by the pu-.eipal (Mr. N. A. Byrne). '
