LEVIN-MOUTOA DEVIATION
NEVER BEEN REPORTED ON FAVOURABLY "As promised in my letter of September 30, I conferred with the Minister of Railways (Ilcn. R. Semple) concerning your inquiry regarding the proposal to re-open he Levin-Greatford railway deviauion via Foxton," wrote the Hon. W. E. Parry to a meeting of the Foxton Borough Council. "Today, I received a reply from my colleague in which he stated ■:hat the rnatter had been considered on several occasions during the years, but in no instance had it e" a been favourably reported cn. My colleague also reminds me," added the Minister, "that I am aware that the Government has heavy commitments for railway improvements ccnsequent upon the cessation of hostilities. These commitments will entail heavy expense and- a considerg-ble drain on manpow.er. He is of the opinion, therefore, that the present is not an opportune time to re-open the question of the deviation of the line in the area °you have referred to."
