ENGINE DRIVERS' STRIKE
Received Fridav, 7 p.m. PERTII, Nov. 8. The first phases Of a general paralysis of industry are being experienced in Western Australia following the commencement of a strike by loconiotive drivers over the suspension of four members of .the Union for their refusai to work a Garratl engine. Today all clectric. power will be cut off unless lliere is h set'tlement and ihe coalmines will cease working. The Government lias promised, amoiig other things, that all Garratt engines shall be ke]it out of (h'e service until the arrival of an indepehdent ohgincer from Now South Wales. With a representative df the union and Government, this man eould dccide whieh of the Garratt s eould safely he returneJ to traffie pendiug the carrying out of major alterations and adjustments. The men have not yet ilceehtt'd this ptoposal.
