SOVIET TROOPS IN POLAND
Reeeived Weduesday, 7 p.m. LONDDON, Nov. G. Following up Generalissimo Stalin 's recent announeement about tho number of Soviet troops abroad, tlie Polisli autliorities iu VVarsaw yesterday issued a statement saying that only an "insigniffeant number" of Soviet troops are now stationed in speejiically deffned areas of Poland. The Times' Warsaw correspondent quotes a Polisli Foreign- Office official as saying their purpose was to safeguard the supply lines of the Soviet forces stated in Germany. They were not occupation troops and were in Poland with the Polisli Government 's eonsent. He refused to give any indication of their numbers beyond saying foreign press reports estimating the Soviet forces in Poland at 25 ' divisions, were highly exaggerated and that even the figure of 100,000 would be an over-estimate.
