TRACK HARD DESPITE RAIN
PO MARAMA IMPRESSES The heavy rain experienced recently has had little effect on the local track, and' horses working on Wednesday morning found it still a little hard underfoot. Po Marama was the most outstanding and covered two rounds of .strong pace work in an attractive style. * He is having his first race of the season in the J. R. McDonald Memorial, and for that reason his performance on Saturday will be watched with interest. First out in the morning was High Assay, who also covered two rounds. He was anxious to go faster and he should not be without prospects when he races on Saturday. Gushing and- Roblyn were confined to pacework on the plough; both were in good form. Looking a picture of fitness, Repudiate was trotted. around 011 the inside track. Later he was given a gallop on the plough, but broke away from his charge and was nbt brought under control till he had completed a further two rounds. If he gets away with the rest of the field he may be one of the hardest
to beat in his division of the Hokio Hack Handicap. Green Valley moved a little short in covering two rounds. Clyde Bridge, who filled a minor placing at the Rangitikei meeting last i week, travelled easily as he covered a round. He should not be without friends in his engagement 011 Saturday. ' A tendency to increa.se ner pcce was noted in Gay Lena as she covered two rounds of steady pace work. Sunstream caused his charge some anxiety because of his tendency to break away. He covered two rounds in a pleasing manner. i Fluctuation went very well over! two rounds and his chances in the Highweight Handicbp -appear bright. Sergeant Jack was confined to being trotted three times round. He is in excellent form and should race prominently on Saturday. Transmitter wds taken over four hurdles and was given pace work
in between. He shaped quite well for a novice and with more experience may do well at the game. He is entered for the sprint, but he will have to improve on his Rangitikei form. Tideen covered two rounds of pace work. The main attraction of the. morning wds the appearance o'n the track of Peter Robinson, who is considered the best prospect for the sprint event. He was allotted to three rounds. Sheilwyn ran an attractive two furlongs in the inside track. Tomorrow the final- gallops • wMl take place.
