After Miller had hit two fours he played one from Langridge on to his wicket. Then Harvey and Hassett became associated in a partnership of 86. They were vigorous and entertaiiiing and seemed on top until Harvey played weakly a short pitehed ball from Bedser and was easily caught. He niade 57 in 106 minutes and hit eight fours. The wicket was playing better after a rolling but there was au occasional riser and sliooter. G-ibb went Qff the field after lunch suffering from a sty in the eye. Hardstaff lcept wicket. Wright had his first suceess after 12 overs, Johnson spooning a catch to , silly midon, while Barnett was brilliantly caught at fine leg. Hassett played a splendid innings but was out when he mistimed a drive. He made the same score last innings in a minute less. He hit six fours.
