TRUST HOTEL OPENED

INVERCARGILL, Nov. 4. The Hotel Soutliland in South Inver cargill, the lirst hotel to be erected by the Licensing Trust, was officially opened today. Tlie chairman of the trust, Alr. 11. Ritchie, said the imilding had been erected in the face of considerable difficulties such as shortages of niaterials and labour. The aim oi the trust was to run uiodel hotels and to make drinking a pleasant soeial custom and not a matter of excess. Alr. Denliam, Al.P., who officially declared the hotel open, said there had been a good deal of objection to its ereetion at a time when houses were so badly needed but he thought the ereetion of Hotel Soutliland was justilied. It would meet special need in -providirm acconnnodal ion for people from the countrv. "1 believe that if a vote wero t.'iken now, the people ot' Invercargill would vote in favour of trust eonIrol and against the ninning of the liolels of Ihe city by jirivale enter prise, " said Arr. Donhain.
