In spite of the shortage of labour, it lias been found that 710 men Jiavt done no work for eleven weeks. The Commission believes that men who do u-ot- want -worlc- -must make room for those who do. This absenteeism has been one of the causes of excessive overtime on the part of other men. The union secretary said that the Commission flgures had been investi gated and 'that it had been established that 45 men were sick, 175 were old veterans with reasonable excuses and L'50 were employed permanently on tlie waterfront. The union agreed that men not following the industry should be dropped. All overseas ships should be t'ully manncd ti 11 Wednesday.
