- AHGKLAND, Nov. 1. Four ' hours after the Monterey arriyeff frpm Sydney this piorping a passenger was'rohDed of her handbag containing .money and travetler's cheques to the value of about 500 doll'ars while slie was shopping in a Queep Street depart'ment st'ore. She w.as hljrs. O. M. Yym^n.ey, an Australian war hride, who was on-her way to the TJnited States with her young son. The sho-p was crowded. Among the contents of the purse were £75 worth of American dollar bilis, £75 in travellerJs cheques and £25 in Aus - tralian eurrency. There -was also a boat tieket from Sydney -to San Francisco -for herself and her son. -The purse and contents had not been recovered by 5 p.m. when Mrs.. Whitney resumed her voyage on the Monterey. Kepresentatives of the shipping GOmpany said the ticket which she had in her purse was only a carboji copy of the original taken fr.om her when she boarded the vessel at Sydney. It was for use as an identity check during the voyage and its loss would not cause her serious inconvenience.
