By Telegraph-
WELLINGTON, Oct. .31. Ilalf of tlie 5000 brown trout fry sent by the Wellington Aeelimatisation (Society in the Sunderland flying boat Mataatua to tlie Chathams, failed to survive ihe journey. The fish in the other container were apparently in good condition and will be liberated in streams oii tlie islaiids. Tlie dead fish were brought back to Wellington wlien ihe plane returned yesterday and will be examined by the society in an attempt to determine the canse of their failure to last tlie journey. One of the likely suggestions is stated to be overheating of the water in the can and lack of air. This 'is the first time tlie society has attempted to sernl trout by air. Tlie experiment was the result of representations made by an islaiul resident who agreed to arrange their transport. The fry left Wellington in excelleut condition after being brought from the hatcheries at Masterton by the society 's head ranger, Mr. P. W. Willson, of Lower Ilutt.
