EXCESS CATTLE AT STORTFORD LODGB

IIASTIX GfS, Oct. 30. At one ot the largest yardings of store cattle ever to come forward at the weekly sale at Stortford Lodge, was oll'ered today when 2500 liead were penned. The yarding was far in exeess of requirenients, passings being numerous while tlie odd saies ellected changed hands at values fully £1 below ruling rates. A good propprtion of the entry consisted of second quality cattle with the bulk of tliem vounger cattle. Top quality lines were in demand mainly within restrieted liniits. Thrce-vear. steers sold at £9 Us, empty cows brought £7 15s, two-year heifers £6 17s tid, yearling heifers £3 18s. Beef values were a sliade easier though quality beasts continued to sell at a margiti above sehedule. Tliere was a steady though not animatecl demand. Prinie ox brouglit' £19 13s 6d to £20 18s 6d, medium £17 3s Gd to £18 3s 6d, heavy cows £14 3s Od, prime £10 3s Od to £12 13s 6d, forward £13 Is to £14 ls and medium at £10 10s to £11
13s Od. Late in selling, an attractive (lraft of 122 A.A. bullocks from Baukawa sold from £20 8s Od to £22 18s 6d averaging £22. While occasional pens of store sheep sold at paritv, values generallv were 6d t% ls liead below ruling rates. In the yarding of 9000 sliorn 2-th and 4-tli wetliers predominated. Hhorn 2-t.h wethers sold at from 24s to 25s 8d, shorn 4-th wethers 29s 3d, woolly 4-th wethers 31s 5d to 35s 3d, shorn 2-th e.wes 24s lOd to 25s lOd, woolly ewe hoggets 29s 2d to 35s Sd, woolly wether hoggets 28s lOd to 33s. Fat sheep were about ls a liead cheaper than at recent saies. Heavy shorn wethers sold from 32s ld to 34s IQd, medium 28s 4cl, shorn Down two-tooths 26s 7d, heavy maiden ewes 37s 4d to 39s lOd, average woolly ewes 23s lOd to 25s 7d, heavy woolly hoggeta to 36s lOd, lighter down. to 29s l°d.
