WEEKEND GOLF
BUCKLEY CLUB'S ACTIVITIES Golfing conditions on the Buckley Club's links over the weekpnd were not ideal. On Saturday afternoon there was a keen wind blowing and an odd shower, which drove players to the shelter of the trees or the clubhouse. The cards of those players who completed the eighteen holes for the stableford competition were as follows: — J. Stern 22, R. Harding 31, T. Boon 32, F. Picard 33, W. Stern 29, R. Downes 23, H. Karena 26 and H. Stern 29. There were only a few players on the links on Sunday, when weather conditions were again unfavourable. Monday saw very little activity at Buckley. Many of the players visited Palmerston North for the New Zealand championship games, while others were among the many who were attending the race meetings. A Buckley representation comprised of Messrs. E. T. Wilson, J. Bell, V. Picard, N. Birch, J. Mabey, C. Booker and J. Chambers visited Taihape over the weekend for the Taihape Club's three-day tournament. Although Mr. J. Mabey was the only player to be in the running for a win, having won the fourball competition partnered by a Taihape player, a most enjoyable time was spent by the local players as the guests of the Taihape Club. All club members and golfers of the district are reminded that the Buckley Club will be holding its official closing next Sunday. The presentation of trophies will take place at 1.30 p.m. and will be followed by a Canadian foursome. In the morning a men's flag competition will - be played for the Stern trophy. Invitations have been extended, to the Levin and Mangaore Clubs to attend.
