PcrsonRl Mr. E. J. Gunning has returned from a holiday visit to Auckland. Mr. Richard Lind spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Lind, of Vance Street. Miss P. Moynihan and Miss M. Dalzell were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Moynihan, East Road, over the weekend. Mrs. G. Mercer, of Stout Street, has returned home after spending a sho'rt holiday with relatives in Wellington. Miss E. Hawke, of Auckland, is spending a holiday in this district as the guest of Mrs. J. A. Easton, Buckley. Messrs. Pat Deegan and Colin Rutherford, of Masterton, spent the weekend at Shannon as the guests of Mr. P. J. Wright, Plimmer Terrace. Messrs. E. T. Wilson, J. Bell, V. Picard, N. Birch, J. Mabey, C. Booker and J. Chambers, members of the Buckley Golf Club, were the guests of the Taihape Golf Club at a three-day tournament held at Taihape. Euchre Prize-Winners The weekly euchre evening conducted by the local branch of the Labour Party, and held in Laurvig's Hall on Friday, was well attended. The prize-winners were Mesdames Poaneki and Taylor and Mr. S. McLaggan. A Quiet Holiday Keeping up to its past reputation, Labour Day in Shannon dawned unsettled and overcast. However, that did not'kcep local residents at home. A full bus and many private cars journeyed to Awapuni for the Wellington Racing Club's fixture. Golfing fans were well catered for at Hokowhitu liriks, where the New Zealand golf championships are being played. Many iocal golfers made the trip with the idea of learning a few new shots. On Sunday the massed bands' display at Palmerston North also attracted many local residents, who spent an enjoyable afternoon listening to some of New Zealand's finest bands. Dancing a Popular Pastime Dancmg proved to be a popular pastime over ' the Labour weekend. The Mangaore Tennis Club held a very successful function in the Mangaore Hall on Saturday evening. Visitors were present from ail over the district and a most enjcyable time was spent dancing to the music of the Hot Shots Band. On Monday evening the Churcn of England Ladies' Guild held ano'cner of its popular dances. The nar.iber of visitors to the town swelled the crowd, which, in spite of the other functions being on in the district, was very large, A competition dance was won by Miss Munford and Mr. Munford. As usual the ladies of the guild provided a most enjoyable supper. The dan:e music was provided by the Hot Shots Band. Local dancers were also present at weekend functioas at Tokomaru and Levin.
