LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
! ' "ANOTHER OTAKI-ITE.'"
MR. THORN AND HOUSING IN OTAKI Sir, — In your issue of Saturday there appeared a poor little attempt at camouflage. The writer, calling himself "Otaki-ite," endeavoured to belittle Mr. Thorn's reply to some remarks made by the Mayor (Mr. C. P. Atmore), at a meeting addressed by Mr. Thorn, relative to a shortage of State houses built in Otaki. Does the writer -of the ' letter know the number of applications put into the Housing Departmentv Does he know that the Otaki Borough Council could have got all the money it required to build houses for Maori and Pakeha? Mr. Thorn could certainly do no other than say, as"a representative for the district, that he would press for housing or ahy other requirements needed. How this can be evasive is hard to imagine. Such an accusation could only come from a bitterly prejudiced individual. This is not the time to speak of the magnitude and progress made by the Labour Government in the matter of housing. Those who cannot wait for further development of State rental houses in Otaki can jalways get a State Advances loan | on very favourable conditions. I should like to believe that | "Otaki-ite" had ever voted for Ln.hmir. or ever will. Yours etc..
Otaki, Oct. 26.
