Mass meetings of railwaymen and tram way men today decided upon resumption of work at'ter a strike which is now in its nint.li day. In order to facilitate Ihe earliest, resuinption, union otlicials have agreed to sup])ly imrnediately sufiicient emergency stafl's for servicing, maintenanco and snfety inspections. The Victorian section of the Sydney Express now held up at Albury, will ruri to Melbourne tomorrow and the normal inter-State expresses will be leaving Melbourne for Svdney and Adelaide tomorrow evcning. All are heavilv booked by stranded passengers. Railwaymen and tramweymen are all anxious to get to work as soon as possible. This was evident at their meetings today when they cheered as officials moved the. motion for resump tion. The motion was unaxiimously adopted at both meetings. Mr. Brown, Railway Union secretary, told the men they had won a big victory and the light would go on ti 11 the remainder of their elaims were conceded. He said the Arbitration C'ourt would immediately review the basic wage. The review would probably be completed in three weeks after which an interim judgment would be given under which the rise would be 10s to. 15s weekly. The executive of the Waterside Workers ' Union today decided to instruct watersidprs to resume work as soon as train and tram services are normal. The first piekup is likely to morrow morning when an efl'ort will be made to clear 44 idle ships now in port. Shipping men expect it to take many weeks to clear up all the cargoes now banked up on the wharves. News of the probable resumption of transport services tomorrow quicklv got around today, to the great relief of the public. Even manv emergency bus services which were warned olf the roads last week by shakers' pickets, were quicklv out again reaping as ntuch as possible from the last day of the holdup.
