OTAKI RIVER WORKS

OPENING NEXT SATURDAY i The Otaki River works project will be opened by the Minister of Works (Mr. Semple) at 11 o'clock next Saturday, morhing. The ceremony will take place on the north bank of the river, immediately downstream from the trafflc bridge. Great interest will centre on the giant tower excavator which is the first machine of its kind to be assembled and ready for use in New Zealand. The machine has been assembled on^the river bank and it is to work downstream for a distance of about ,f.wo miles, -QXCAvating a new channel by the removal of some 500,000 cubic yards of ■shingle from the river bed. A general invitation is issued to the public to attend this opening function and an opportunity will be given fco see this huge machine start operations.
