MALICIOUS USE OF 'PHONE
AUCKLAND, Oct. 25. Falsely representing lie liad a house to let, John Eichard Cameron, aged 28, motor driver, married, made ari appointment with the Canadian wife of a New Zealand ex-servicemen and the sequel was his appearance in the Poliee Court today on tllree charges of nsing the telephone serviee maliciously for the purpose of irritating the woman. According to the prosecution, Cameron made an appointment with the woman by telephone eoneerning the letting to her of a house, and proposed eertain eonduct. The woman kept the appointment after notifying the poliee and accused was detained by a deteetive. In a long statement to the Magistrate, accused, who pleaded guilty, expressed extreme regret. Mr. .T. H .Tmxford, S.M., said the caso was shoching and it was seandalous that for using the telephone in this manner and causing grief and distress, the maximum penalty was only £5. He supposed for every offender eanght, hundreds were not detected. . Camefon was fined £5 on eaeir cliarge in 'd$fau]t. ten davs ' imprisonment on eaeh.
