LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
"OTAKI-ITE."
MR. THORN EYASIVE Sir, — The Mayor (Mr. C. F. Atmore) is to be congratulated on the pertinent questions he put to the- Labour candidate for Otaki, Mr. Thorn, at his meeting in Otaki on Tuesda-y evening. What about some State houses for Otaki and • the provision of a housing scheme for the Maori population, and why has the Labour Government chosen to overlook Otaki in everything until i't wants the people's votes. Labour has had its opportunity to do something for- Otaki in these important things, but has preferred to ignore the people's representations. Mr. Thorn's answer to the Mayor, that he would give full attention to all requirements of the district he represented is anything ! but reassuring. It is nothing short of evasive, and is one of' those political promises which commits Mr. Thorn and his party to nothing at all. -The people wiil not be gulled by •such utterances again. I have voted for Labour at the last two elections, but not again. Yours
etc., Otaki, Oct. 25.
