BAND EFFORT RAISES £230
GENEROUS PUBLIC RESPONSE A generous response on the part of the public and very fine work by the committee resDonsible for its organisation made the Levin Municipal Band's combined shop and street day appeal yesterday probably the most successful ever to be conducted in Levin. Though the final result is not yet available, the pracoeds wil'l at least be £230 after all expenses have been paid. That such a handsome sum has been contributed by the public must be an encouragement to members of the band, who have devoted many hours to practice in order to become a proficient combination, and to the citizens' committee which is responsible for the linancial side of its activities. Last evening the playing of the band in Oxford Street, coupled with the holiday weelt-end, was responsible for one of the largest crowds seen in Levin on a Friday night for some time. The band rendered a programme for an hour, j and its playing was very favourI ablly commented unon. Having I made such excellent progress it can i be exnected that the band will he ' seen out more often.
