MR. ALFRED TRESEDER
A well kpown and respected cjtizen of Levin, Mr. Alfred Treseder, died yesterday at his horne in Tiro Tiro Road- i,ir. Treseder was 86 years of ag£ and had been a resident of Levjn x'or the past 26 years. Born in Victoria, Australia, he arrived in New Zealand in his first year, and setLed with his family in Dunedin. As a young man he entered the c-arpentry trade, and later left Dunedin to take charge of the joining Siiop of the Westport Cqal Company's constructional works, , In 1L89 he married Miss Jean Watson, a member of a well /'./ known West Coast family, In 1891 / he was transfcrred to the Westport Qo'al Company's works at Granity. Creek, where he remained till 1904. A-- realisation ihat there were lijnited opportunities for his family, led to his decision to leave that locality. He started in business as a building contractor in the Hutt Valley, living in Petone. Later he moved to Lower Hutt. In 1920 he came to Levin and has resided here ever since. A keen sportsman, he 'was a foundation member of the Zingaree Fooiball Club, Dunedin, and one of those instrumental in reviving football in Westport. He was also well known in bowling circles, being fcr 'many years a member of th° Levin -Cent-ral Bowling Club. l_e was an active Mason for 58 years, being a foundation member of the Lodge Orangi 89, Westport, Lodge Torea, Granity, and Lodge Waiwhetu, Lower Hutt. He was also a life member of the Lodge Horowhenua. The late Mr, Treseder is survived by his wife and three sons, Messrs-. F. Treseder (Lower Hutt), G. H. Treseder (Hawke's Bay) and W. P. Treseder (Wellington) , and four daughters, Mrs. C. C. Tolley (Hawke's Bay) , Mrs. T. S. Waugh (Lower Hutt) , Mrs. Av Kellian (Auckland) and Miss Doris Treseder (Levin) . There are also 21 grandchildren.
