Personal l± Mr. W. Swindlehurst, of Cambridge, a former old' resident of Shannon, is a visitor to the town looking up his many old friends. Mr. and Mrs. A. McDonald, of Mangaore, have returned from a three weeks' holiday visit to the South Tsland. Mrs. F. C. Peach and her son, Ted who has been in ill health for some time, lei't on Wednesday on a fortnight's hoiiday tfrip to Hamilton and Rotorua. Mr. H. Hook and- Miss Dawn Hook, who are visitors to this country from South Africa, left yesterday on an extended motor trip of the North . Island. They expect to be absent ftom Shannon from two to three weeks. Storm Water Channels Full Storm water channels were running to capacity yesterday as the result- of the heavy rain which fell continuously all • Wednesday night and yesterday morning. However, as the rain eased off about lunch time, the situation was relieved, and within an hour most of the water was off the streets. Rain continued to fall in the afternoon, but was not heavy.
Request for Power A letter was received at the monthly meeting of the Horqwhenua Electric Power Board this week from . Mr. D. C: H. Douglas, asking that power be extended to ■ his property in " Victoria Road, Tokomaru, and also to that of his neighbour, Mr. J. A. White. It was decided to defer a decision until an . investigation was made by the managing-secretary ■ and engineer, and a report submitted to the next meeting.
