MORE SHIPS FROM BRITISH YARDS

Received Tluirsdav, t p.m. LONDON, Oct. 24. British shipyards todav have a larger volume of new eons(truetion tiian at fin\ lime sinee 11)22. Aceording to l.lowls register over 1 ,750,000 tons of new shijiping was being liuilt in British vards in September. Overseas orders coniprise fully 25 per eent. of this total which is the largest volume of foreign orders for many years. The present new tonnage iigures represent more than half the world total which is estimated at 3,5(K),00() tons. American •onst ruction is approximately one-fifth of the present British ligures. British .■diipbuilders say they have suflicient orders in hand and pending to ensure the }>resent rate of construction for iit least tliree vears. During the past three mon ths 2(58,01)0 tons of new shipping was launehed from British yards in cluding live ships of over 25,000 tons and four of over 15,000 tono. The new construction tigures do not include a large amount of repair and reconversion work at present in }>rogress.
