AUCKLAND, Oct. 23. The first coal sliipment from America to reach Auckland for many years, is carricd bv tlie 7200 ton^ American war built steamer Edward Kavanagli wliich arrived this afternoon. The sliip carries 8741 tons of a*50,000 ton coal contract, -part of wliich has already been brought by the barque Pamir and Har old A. Jordou, both of whieh were unloaded at Wellington. It is understood C tlie whole of the sliipment will be used by tlie railways (lepartment as the coal is bituminous and suited for heating pnrpo^es.
