SOME GOOD TRIALS RECORDED AT AWAPUNI Although no yisiting horses were in attendance, there were some interesting trials in the semi-linal gallops for the Wellington meeting at Awapuni yesterday morning, when sound efforts- were credited to Winning Ticket, Broiefield; Imperial, Prinee Wanaka, .Czarina, Blue Chips and Gay Flame. Galloping was carried out on the No. 1 grass track, the going being .slightly dead and not condueive to fast times. Flying Ace (Waddell) was always under a good hold wliile running the last five furlongs of his work in 1 9, the linal three taking 42 3-5sec. Jasper (Saunders) rau an easy six furlongs in 1.24, and his stablemate, Dutch Mary (Waddell), who looks very well, was keen to go faster while coveriDg five furlongs in 1.12 2-5. The best six furlongs went to the ercdit of Winning Ticket (Boreliam) and Broiefield (Sellars), who recordetl 1.19 4-5. They rau the last three in 40sec., and finished solidly to be on ternis. Winning Ticket is expected to give a good account of himself over the week-end, while Broiefield, who races on Monday, has never looked better at any stage of his career. Gallop by Kindergarten Kindergarten (Broughton) and Langue d'Or (Sellars) were paired over seven furlongs in 1.35, the last three occupying 41see. Kindergarten pleased by the dash he ini'used into his tas'k and had to be held back to his companion over the final stages. • He was very tender in front afterwards but no worse than he has been of late. His trainer stated that, all going well, he wiii take his place in the field for the Harcourt Stakes on the second day. imperial (Collins) and Prinee Wanaka (Aitken) took the honours over seven furlongs by registering 1.33 2-5, the last three furlongs being run in 39 2-5sec. L. Knapp 's pair iiave been working consistently well and should race proiuinentiy this week. Goronaire (Sellars) appeared to have the measure of « Golden Casket (Broughton) over half a mile, the last three furlongs taking "43sec. Emerge (Saunders) strode over seven furlongs easily in 1.36 3-5, the last three in 42sec. By traversing a mile in 1.47 1-5, and the last three furlongs in 41 sec., Czarina (Buchanan) was responsible for an attractive effort. She appears to have become solid, and on latest form has good prospects in the middle-distance hack events. The improving novices Flirtatious' (Collins) and Balcairn (Aitken) eovered six furlongs in 1.20 3-5. An Easy Seven Looking improved after his race at Opaki, Saludos (Broughton) pleased by the effortless style in wliich he eovered seven furlongs in 1.38, the last three taking 43 2-5sec. Financial' (Waddell) worked in his usual free manner while traversing a xnile in 1.48 2-5, the seveu furlongs in 1.34 2-5, and the linal three in 40 3-5sec. His poor showing at Masterton canuot be accounted for by his connections. Blue Chips (Rout) sprinted a smart five furlongs in tl.5 1-5. Gay Btroller (Waddell) was -not extendcd. .toi ,iecqyj 1.7. Bay Robe, (Brqughton) took 1.24 for six fuylongs! : Thunderhead (Waddell) improved by running 1.22 1-5, and he looks an exeellent prospect on the Taranaki trip ovqr Ihe week-end. Stony Broke (Borehamj) was let off with an easy five furlongs' in 1.10, the last three taking 42 l-5sec,; The two-year-plds Senior Wrangler (Boreham), Meteorina (Garth) and True Chum (Baunders) sprinted three furlongs in 39'2-5see. After running the first two in :20 2-5sec., Lord Bradbury (Waddell) and Bir Bradbury (>S. Waddell) completed five furlongs in 1.7 1-5, with the lattei" doing the better. Carrying a big weight, Airpier (Parker) reeled off the last three furlongs of half a niile in 40 l-5sec. Filature (Garth) required 55 l-5sec. for half a mile. Prefa (Andrews) was under a good hold while covering five furlongs in 1.9 3-5, the last three in 41 3-5sec. A Sound Eftort Hakim (Harris) was sent about a mile and a quarter, and was timed to run the last mile in 1.49 2-5, and the three furlongs in 4Usec. He iinislied very soundly and cannot be left. out of caleulations while the traoks remain easy. With the assistanee of Dileas (Ainey), Tribute (Bowness) encompassed a mile in 1.48 3-5, the last three furlongs being run in 40 2-5sec. Tribute continues to work well, but is racing disappoiutingly. Moving more freely than usual, Cramond Bay (Broughton) finished much too well for Havildar over a mile and beat liim comfortablv in 1.49 2-5, the last three furlongs taking 42 l-5sec. Lady Burford (Reid) drew attention to her prospects on the Taranaki trip by easily accounting for Lady Barrington (Broughton) and Afton Water (Garth) over six furlongs in 1.21, the last three furlongs in 41 3-5see. Gay Flame (Stevens), Red Glare (Waddell) and Greelc Dancer (Rouse) were assoeiated in a schooling task over six hurdles. C/ay Flame was the most impressive and, jumping eleverly, could not be held back to the other pair, who, however, fenced safely. Theolateral (Buchanan) was sent over six hurdles, but he did not have much pace on and juniped very slovenly. For a beginner, Lanoma (Buchanan) gave a polished display over six hurdles. Bay Robe (Miss White) negotiated four hurdles in dashing style, while Tula (Waddell) made no mistakes in a similar task. The Trentham horses, ineluding Lady Christine, Howe, Flying Robin and Lord Darnley, were expected to arrive at Awapuni yesterday. The South Island visitors are due to-day.
