WEEK-END GOLF
CUP FINAL AT BUCKLEY A match which has created no small amount of interest, the final of the Goldfinch and Cousins- Cup, was played ofl at Buckley over the weekend and resulted in II. Stern defeating V. Pieard, four up and three to play. The winner, Mr. H. Stern, has always. been a consistent golfer, not at any time spectacular, but always in the running at the finish. During this season he has returned some very good cards. The runner-up, Mr(,V. P.icard, is a goifer whu iias improved greatly over the season, so much so that he has had his handicap reduced from 21 to 10 during the season. At the completion of this match his handicap was reduced by one stroke. The cards for .tilfe match were as •f ollows : ^First round. — H. Salurday's Results On Saturday aicernoon there was a good attendance of members on the links when a stroke competition was played. The following are the cards handed in: — D. Higgie 67, J. Chambers 73, V. Picard 73, F. Picard 76, E. Wilson 68, C. Booker 65, J. Bell 71, B. Harris 66, H. Karena 70, R. S. Downes 72, J. Stern 75 and J. Mabey 70. Sunday's activities at Buckley took the form of a best ball stableford. The results are: — H. Stern and V. Pope 37, J. Stern and H. Mabey 41, J. Mabey and N. Mabey 35, C. Stern and J. Bell 37, V. Picard and F. Picard 40, C. Booker and N. Birch 31 and H, Karena. and Booker 34. Fourball Competition A further match in the semifinals of the fourball competitions was played on Sunday afternoon, when J. Mabey and J. Purcell defeated„E. Wilson and J. Bell at the twentieth green, after a hard and interesting match. J. Mabey and J. Purcell will now meet J. Chambers and T. Boon in the final. "Top Dogs" Competition The "top dogs" competition was taken a stage further on Saturday afternoon, when a challenge from D. Higgie and J. Chambers was a little too much for V. and F. Picard, who lost their title three up and two to play. Handicap Reductions The handicap commlttee advises the following reductions in handicaps after the weekend play: — V. Picard reduced from 11 to 10, H. Mabey from 10 to 8, C. Booker from 26 to 23, B. Harris from 27 to 24, D. Higgie from 20 to 18, E. Wilson from 6 to 5. __________________
