PARAPARAUMU NOTES
(From "Chronicle" Qorrespondent) The Paraparaumu branch of St. Peter's Mothers' Uni'on held its meeting in the Anglican Hall, presided over by Mrs. Rickells. Mrs. Bullock, from Wellington, was the guest of the afternoon. Over £120 was the pleasing sum made at the recent garden party at Reo Moana in aid of Plunket funds. The October meeting of the Paraparaumu Women's Institute was held in the Anglican Hall. presided over by Mrs. Hornsby. The meeting opened with the singing of the institute song and the repeating of the aspirations. Several apologies were handed in, influenza having claimed many unfortunate members. Two new members, Mrs. Ball and Mrs. Price, were welcomed. Mrs. Shakespeare and Mrs. HerT bert, visitors from Wellington, were the guests of the afternoon. Mrs. Shakespeare spoke on Maori history and Mrs. Herbert rendered delightful Maori songs, some of which were composed and set to music by the ladies themselves. A hearty vote of thanks was given to the ladies, and each was presented with a spray of flowers and>a small gift in appreciation of the very pleasant afternoon they had given to the institute. Afternoon tea was served and the meeting concluded with the singing of the National Anthem. Miss-Telford was the winner of the flower competition and Mrs. McConnell was second. Several burg'laries are reported to have taken place in the district. ! The Beautifying Society must have great pleasure in viewing the flowering cherry trees planted by its members. Their lovely pink beauty is a delight to the eyes of passers by.
