WELLINGTON, Oct. 18. ■ An unusual sale of property by auetion in Wellington was conducted by Gordon Harcourt, acting for the trustee ( of the estate of the late Mrs. A. Trnda The property was a single story five roomed house with a garage beneath, at Oriental Parade. It was known there would be eager competition for it long , before the sale. In order to avoid c.on , flict wiih the Land >Sales Committee, it was decided, before the auetion, that there would be a reserve price of £3000. . If there were bidders beyond that price means would be devised to aseertain tlie . purchaser. The reserve was quiekly ; reaehed so the auctioneer had to stop - selling and put into operation his plan 1 for deciding who the new owner should - be. When the reserve was . reaehed there were 13 bidders left, eager to run f the price up another £1000 or £1500. The • 13 names were put in a liat and an un1 interested person was called on to draw out oue of the uame slips.
