UNION AFTER FREE AMBULANCE DRIVERS
WELLINGTON, Oct. 17. The wish of the Wellington Drivers' Hnion to recruit as niembers drivers oi' Ihe Wellington Citv aml Distriet Free Ambulance, was discussed- by the Ainbulance Board today when a letter was read from the secretary of the Hnion stating that the Hnion wished to meet representatives of the Board 111 Conciliation Council proceedings. When Alr. J. H. Collins asked what th-e Board intended to say in reply, the president,. Sir Cliarles Norwood, said tliat the Board had no intention of departing from its previous decision which. was tliat it did not see that tliere was anytliing to gain by the Board 's specialised drivers being made subject to the will of the union. ATr. .Collins then said the proceedings would' go, forward. Otlierwise the Board could decide on applying to the Arbitration Court for exemptiou from the operations of. the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act. "1'm telling you tliat because it is my job and has been for years," said Alr. Collins. "That is what you might have to pay 10 guineas f'or if you consult a lawver.
