MANAKAU NOTES
FEDERATED FARMERS MEET The Manakau branch of Federated Farmers held its usual monthly meeting recently, the president, Mr. C. O'Sullivan bemg in the chair. The question of having a better mail delivery was advocated and rural mail was also discussed, but the committee decided in favour of asking the department for more boxes. At the conclusion of the meeting, Mr. E. Findsen, manager of the Kuku-Manakau factory, gave a very interesting address on milk flavours and how to avoid them. A very hearty vote of thanks was moved by the president to Mr. Findsen for his instructive talk, and was carried by acclamation. Supper was then provided by members of the W.D.F.F., for which they were thanked by Mr. O'Sullivan. Valedictory Function The Manakau Hall was decorated tastefully with Iceland poppies recently, the occasion being a farewell to Mr. and Mrs. David Horn, who are returning to South Africa. The function was arranged by Mr. Horn's parents and several items helped to make the evenihg a most successful and pleasant one. Local Horses Run Well The local horses had a good innings at the recent Otaki meeting, both Soneri and Tortago winning' races. Mine Host, of the Manakau Hotel, deserves credit for the manner in which he turned out Tortago. Soneri, of course, is an exceptionally good mare, perhaps the best since Desert Gold. Local punters backed both horses to a man. The Chatsworth — Balgawlah filly, bred by Mr. C. O'Sullivan, of Manakau, has been very aptly named Blarney Stone, Chatsworth being a famous castle in England and Blarney being a famous castle in Ireland.
