DISTURBANCES IN INDIA
Received Thursdav, 9.50 p.m. PESTIAWAR, Oct. 10. Five thousand northwest frontier Moslems, brandishing spears and clutis and shouting anti-Hindu slogans, gathered outside tho airport to demonstrate against Alr. Nehru, who was arriving by air for a tour of the frontier areas. Mr. Nehru avoided the demonstrators by leaving' the airport by a liack wav, The Pathans cried: "Down with tne unlioly. alliance between the Hindus and British. Nehru, gb liack!" ATembers of the Aroslem League smashed the windows of the car carrving the Arinistcnal partv to meet Alr. Nehru, but the- crowd dispersed when the escort drew a pistol. Tlie Bengal Government is sending reinforcenients of troops and police to the Noahkali distriet, Eastern Bengal. The Priine Arinister, Sulirawardy, said lie had received reports "of grave lawlessness and oppression". The area axt'ected, f'ortunately, was limited. The reason i'or tlie disturbance was unknown. ...
