POSOtJTAWHAO'S MEETING 'There was a good attendance of members at the October meeting of the Poroutawhao Women's Institute. In the absence of the president (Mrs. Scott), the chair was occupied by the vice-president (Mrs. Speirs) . Mrs. Penny gave the motto for the month, "Wise women gain their own ends by what they leave unsaid." A presentation was to have been made to Mrs. Arcus, but as she was indisposed Mesdames Speirs, Carle and Hannan visited her home and made the presentation there, conveying best wishes from all members. Competition results were: — Three bottles of fruit: Mrs. Carle 1. Kiss cakes: Beryl Carle 1, Shirley Scott 2. Best bloom: Miss Scott 1, Mrs. Carle 2, Mrs. Penny 3. Best shrub: Mrs. Hannan 1, Mrs. Speirs 2, Mrs. Penny 3.
