SUCCESSFUL SEASON ENDS
OHAU BADMINTON CLUB A fittiiig closing night to the Ohau Badminton Club's 1946 season wvas held in the Ohau Hall last wieek. Many visitors were present from the Shannon, Manakau .and Koputaroa Ciubs and an enjoyabl# evening was spent on the courts. During the evening the final matph for the Benning Cup, coupled with it being the combined doubles senior honours, was played off between Miss B. Mudge partnered by Mr, F. Catley and Mrs. F. Fanning partnered by Mr. D. Honore. With the points 14 — 5 against them, Miss Mudge and Mr. Catley staged a magniflcent comeback and were successful in winning the game after advantage points were played. Following a delightful supper served by the ladies of the club, the president (Mr. J. Bowling) extended a welcome to the visitors and thanked the various clubs for the many delightful matches played during the year. Mr. Bowlirig stated that a warm friendship existed between the clubs, both on and off the courts, and hoped that next season would bring more and better matches. In reviewing the Ohau Club's activities over the past season, Mr. Bowling stated that the A team had had a most successful run, having won all of the six matches played. Of the 144 games which made up the matches, the team had won 101 and lost 43. Points scored by them amounted to 3376, against 1501 scored by their opponents. Mr. Bowling then presented the trophies won during the season. They were as follows: — Benning Cup and senior combined doubles: Miss B. Mudge and Mr. F. Catley; runners-up: Mrs. F. Fanning and Mr. D. Honore. Men's junior championship cup: Mr. D. Honore; irunner-up: Mr. J. Lomas. Ladies' (junior championship cup: Miss H. (Mudge; runner-up: Miss Pat ! Greenwood. j Speaking on behalf of their j respective clubs, Mr. J. Ward j (Koputaroa), Mr. A. S. Hyde (Shannon) and Mr. B. Mather ; (Manakau) all congratulated the Ohau Club on its successful season I and hoped, with the formation of the sub-association, to see more inter-club games played next season. The visitors spoke highly of the friendship brought about by the playing of badminton in the district, and the magniflcent way in which the visitors were entertained whichever club was visited.
