(. SPACE FOR TRADE EXHIBlTS | TOWN COMMITTEE'S DECISION )' The questibn of space for trade v ekhibits at the forthcOming Horoto whenua A. and P. Association'S show was discussed at a recent 1 meeting of the newly-formed Town Committee of the association. The 1 chairman, Mr. J. Todd, cailed upon Mr. I. Park, a membef of a committee appointed at a previous meeting to investigate available space, to present his report. Mr. Park produced a plan of the afea and gave a detailed account of the space' which would be available. It was decided that charges for this space would be on the norma! basis of two shillings per square foot frontage, irrespective of depth. When discussing the question of i power for the exhibits, it was agreed that any power used by exhibitors at night for lightirig orily would be supplied by the associatibn, but the power for animatec! exhibits would be an extra charge on the individffal exhibitor. No charge would b'e made for exhibits of an instructional natufe. A list of possible exhibitors was handed to the secretary, with instfuctions to circularise them as 1 regards space requifed, Night Show The chairman reported that he had cohtacted Mr. J. Macfarlane regarding a suggestion made at the last meeting, that the night show incorporate marching competitions. Mr. Macfarlane had been wholeheartedly behind the suggestion, ,and had agreed to assist in any way. Unfortunately both. himself and the Horowhenua Pipe Band would be away from Levin on People's Day, but Mr. G. Lester had intimated that he was willing to carry on with the Levin Municipal Band. The space required for the competition would be approximately 100 yards square. The ques-

tion of trophies and prrzes was discussed, Mr. Park suggesting thal the business men of Levin be approached and asked to donate a cup. Mr. Todd suggested that banners would be more appreciated b^ the juniors. It was decided that the marching competitions be held and be divided into the following classes:— Junior (17 years and under) and open, First prize a challenge cup and £10, second £5. Costumes: First prize £2 2s, second £1 ls; junior: a banner to be won outright; coach of winning team: The secretary was asked to contact Mr. McCay, secretary of the Manawatu A. and P. Association, to obtain details of the marching, such as contacting teams, arrangmg judges, supply of refreshnient to contestants and ar-rangements for changing. The chairman said that Mr. Macfarlane had offered to draw up a more suitable diagram for the marching, both for the open *and for the juniors. The secretary was requested to ring Mr. Lester regarding the offer of his band, and to signify the association 's pleasure in acceptance. The question of one band playing all the time was put forward by one of the members, and the secretary said he would point this out to Mr. Lester when speaking to him. A letter from the Junior Chamber of Commerce regarding assistance at the show was received by the- committee. The secretary was instructed to reply to the letter, thanking the chamber for its offer and advising that it would be advised as soon as possible the manner in which their help would be appreciated most.
