BRILLIANT FLAY IN FINALS The finals of the Buckley Golf 'Club's 1946 championships were played off over the weekend. Good golflng conditions prevailed and there was a large and interested gathering on the links. In the senior championship final, F. Picard met E. T. Wilson in one of the most interesting matches ever played at Buckley. At the completion of the first eighteen holes, Picard was one up. Wnen the players returned to the links after lunch, Wilson was successful in drawing level at the turn, and a desperate battle raged over the last nine holes. However, the game concluded on the seventeenth green, with F. Picard two up and oue to play. In the junior championship final Bill Stern proved too good for his fatlier, Mr. C. Stern, and after an interesting match Bill was four up with three holes to play. The C grade final was also a keenly contested game, C. Booker winning from H. Karena, four and two. Saturday's Results Ideal golfing condiwons prevailed on Saturday afternoon and there was a large gathering of members present. A bogey competition was played. The following are the scores from those cards handed in: — W. Stern four up, V. Picard three up, F. Picard square, T. Boon square, C. Stern two down, V. Pope five down, J. Stern four down, R. Harding two down, C. Booker six down, J. Bell two down, J. Chambers six down, H. Stern two down. On Sunday a fourball bogey was played and some good cards were returned. They were as follows: — D. Higgie and H. Mabey three up, E. T. Wilson and F. Picard four up, J. Mabey and J. Bell four up, N. Mabey and C. Booker four up, W. Stern and V. Picard five up and H. Stern and T. Boon six up. Fourball Competition A further game in the fourball competition was played on Saturday afternoon, when J. Chambers and T. Boon defeatecj[ H. Stern and R. S. Downes, one u£, after a very close game. Handicap Reductions The handicap committee advise the following reductions in handicaps following the weekend play:— F. Picard reduced from seven to six, V. Picard from 15 to 11, J. Bell from 26 to 25, J. Stern from 27 to 26, J. Purcell from 14 to 12. Mr. Harold Hook, who is visiting ; Shannon from South Africa, spent Saturday afternoon on the links.
