WOMEN'S INSTITUTES

W\ITARFRF'§"MP^TIILY MEETING There was a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Waitarere Women's Insticute. After the singing of the W.I. song and the reciting o-f the aspirations, Mrs. Fletcher welcomed members and friends. One new member was enrolled. It was with regret that members accepted the resignation of Mrs. Swan from the office of secretary, and Mrs. Fagan was appointed to fill the vacancy. Arrangements were made for two delegates to ittend the federation meeting at Paekakariki. After the hostesses, Mesdames Swan and Morgan, had served afternoon tea, eight of the members took part in a debate on the subject of whether the young people of today are as happy and contended as their parents were when they were young. Mrs. Stan-: ley opened the debate for the older generation and supporting her were Mesdames Fagan, Turton and Stallard. Mrs. Benning led the case for the young people, and was supported by Mesdames Swan, Fraser and Nelson. Some interesting points were raised by both sides and the members thoroughly enjoyed the innovation. Competition results were: — Marmalade: Mrs. Stanley 1, Mrs. Fagan 2, Mrs. Fraser 3. Face cloth: Mrs. Fraser 1, Mrs. Stanley 2 and 3.
