WEEK-END BOWLING
SHANNON'S ACTIVITIES On Saturday af ternoon several rinks of Shannon bowlers spenb an enjoyable time at the openings of various clubs throughout the district. A rink comprislng Messrs. E. Spencer, E. Tliorne, V. J. Bateman and A. Birss visited Levin to attend the opening of -the Levin Club, and were successful in winning their match. Messrs. R. Mills, Hikamati, F. Peni and Calnan, visited the 'op^j'ing of the Levin Central Club's greens and were also successful, Messrs. R. Hook, H. Norris, F. Edmonds, C. M. Cronquest and T. Bell were the Shannon visitors to., Foxton for the latter club's open-' ing day, but the home rink was too strong for the visitors, who lost by a narrow margin.
Sunday saw activity on the local green when a gala day was held: The object of which was to introduce newcomers to the game of bowls. Many took the opportunity to try their hand out, and many old players were on the greens for a little practice prior to the club opening next Saturday. There were many ladies on the -croquet green and a most enjoyable af ternoon was spent. The ladies later provided a delightful afternoon tea.
