Dance Committee Busy The committee of the Shannon Miniature Rifle Club is busy making final arrangements for the welcome home dance and pfesentation of trophies, which is to be held on Thursday evening. Many visitors are expected and a number of invitations have been sent out. Political Address An address will be given in the Renown Theatre on Thursday evening by Mr. Phil Holloway, the Labour candidate for the - Manawatu electorate. Although a young man, Mr. Holloway is a very forceful speaker and should attract a large crowd at his meeting. Issue of Ration Books The issuing of the sixth series of ration books commenced at the Shannon Post Office yesterday, and will continue until Friday, October 25. Many applications were made yesterday and the department requests that local residents make their applications as early as possible. The issue of new books will be made during normal office hours which include 7 to 8 p.m. on Friday evenings. Manawatu Golf Championships Local residents and golfers will be interested in the result of the final of the Manawatu golf championships, played at Hohowhitu on Sunday, when Mr. D. G. LengWard, son of Mrs. I. F. Leng-Ward, of Vance Street, was narrowly defeated by Ngaio Amon. After being one down at the end of the first round, Amon played brilliant golf to defeat Doug. Lcng-Ward in ihe thirty-six hole marc-h. The game which was linished on the 34th green, was remarkable for Amon's af ternoon play and for Doug Leng-Ward's recovery shots from bunkers. It was watched by a large gallery and Amon's winning margin was four and two.
