ABOLITION OF UPPER HOUSE?
WELLINGTON, Oct. 13. Wlien it rnet on Saturday morning for the last time this session, the Legisiative Couneil discussed the possible future of the Chamber, the abolition ot which had been suggested and promised for a long time past. Arguments for its retention were many and the Leader (Hon. A. MeLagan), who is now to relinquish the position, stressed the laek of knowledge of many of those who were most loud in their opinion that it should be abolished. It remained, however, for Hon. A. Campbell to provide a huntorous elimax. He said that, like the House of Lords, it would not be abolished because everybody wanted to get there. Tributes to Hon. A. JMeLagan were paid by all Members and he was wislied success in his future political eareer. Others _to whom tributes were paid were the Speaker (Hon. M. Fagan), the Chairman of Committees (Hon. B. Martin) and Hon. B. C. Bobbins who next nionth will celebrate his 90th birtliday.
