GRASSHOPPER PLAGUES
Received Sunday, 7 p.m. SYDNEY, Oct. 12. Serious grasshopper plagues are menacing crops and pastoral areas in three States. In the north of South Australia grasshoppers are so thick engine drivers are tying hags to the wheels of locomotives to sweep the lines clear. In Victoria and New South Wales aerial attacks are being made on the insects. ' The South Australian Government,.fearing the worst plague for "years"; ' is making comprehensive plan's to deal with it. Planes will he made availahle to spray hreeding grounds if a request is made for them.
