SIR JOHN RANKXN BROWN

WELLINGTON, OCt. 14. The death has occurred of Sir John Rankin Brown, in his 85th year. Sir John was one of the four foundation professors at Victoria University College, and on his resignation had given 47 years of seryiee to the universitv and educational life of the Dominion. Sir John was honoured by the conferring of the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws by his old uni'yersity, St. Andrew's, Scotland, in 1927, and was _f urther honoured this year in the King's Birthdav list with theK.B.G. He gave long service on the Senate, and was three times chairman of the professorial board of Victoria. University.
