England 's bowlers, with tlie exe.eption of the slovv spinner, Douglas Wright, were uuimpressive on the opening day of their initial first-class mateh of the tour, when Western Australia young batsmen eompiled 310 for six wickets. A feature was the audacious iifth wieket stand by Watt and Herbert, who added 118 runs in an hour.
