OWNERSHIP MUST BE PROVED
IF WANDERING STOCK CHARGES . ARE TO SUCCEED A charge preferred by the Horowhenua County Council (Mr. J. P. Bertram) against Brian Leslie Everton (Mr. N. M. Thomson), for allegedly permitting stock to wander unattended on the Hokio Beach Road on four different occasions, was dismissed by Mr. A. M. Goulding, S.M., in the Levin Court on Friday. After the hearing of evidence by the county ranger as to finding wandering stock on the Hokio Beach Road in response to various complaints, His Worshin held that the case could not proceed in view of the inability of the ranger to identify the stock as belonging to Everton. His Worship said it was imperative that the prosecution should establish the ownership of the stock, and he suggested that in the cases where wandering stock was found the Horowhenua County Council should impound the stock, in which event the establishment of ownership could more easily and definitely be determined.
