SCOUTS FOR JAMBOREE

RAISING OF FINANCE Offers to help the Scout Committee in raising funds to send three Levin boys to the World Scout Jamboree in France next : August are coming in from vari- i ous organisations. The Levin Rotary Club has announced that it is anxious to help in any way it can, and when Rotary gets rnoving things begin to happen. The Post and Telegraph Departmem/s Women's Social Club is -going to hold a ball in aid of funds on a date to be anhounced later, and judging by their previous efforts, this will be an event to look forward to. Preparations for potato planting are going ahead. The Scout Committee has arranged with Mr. W. S. Long for the use of nearly four acres of land, and th'e planting is to be done on Saturday, October 19. All the Scouts will be engaged from nine o'clock onwards, assisted by members of the committee, while the ladies are undertaking the provision of cordials and tea. Any members of the public who would like to assist will be very welcome. The three-acre paddock where the work will begin is easily identified, as it is near the western end of Roslyn Road and on the south side. Later in the day the boys will be planting in a paddock close to Mr. Long's residence in MacArthur Street. After the potatoes are in the Scouts and Cubs are looking forward to the Labour Day rally, which is to be held at Feilding this year. This is an annual gala day when Scouts and Cubs from a wide area meet and compete in various branches of scouting activity. It stimulates the team spirit by competitive action and so helps to keep everyone up to scratch. It is hoped that next year it may be possible to hold the rally in Levin., Arrangements are also being made for a bottle drive on Saturday, November 2, covering the whole town, and citizens are invited to save up their old bottles, rags and newspapers for collectioii when the Scouts call.
